A common complaint today is that with the coming of the computer we often feel depersonalized. Why? Because more and more we deal with faceless machines that do not recognize us as individuals, but as numbers to be processed as rapidly as possible. And when the computer malfunctions, it sometimes seems impossible to get things sorted out. The computer just won't "listen to us." When we feel this way, JESUS' words as recorded by John are especially comforting. Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep" (John 10:14). We are not numbers to Him; in fact, HE CALLS US BY NAME.
Do you feel neglected? Have friends let you down? Does it seem that even the Lord has forgotten you? If so, take comfort in this: The Savior knows who you are and where you are and what you need. You are not just a number to Him. He knows your name! (DB86)
